Pediatric Dentistry
Pediatric dentistry is about pace as much as procedure. The first visits set the tone for how a child feels about the dentist for the rest of their life, so appointments here are unhurried and explained in terms a kid actually understands.
Overview
- Nothing is done to a nervous child without explaining it first, in language they understand.
- A dedicated kids area in the waiting room means the first thing they see isn’t a treatment chair.
- Regular checkups from an early age catch problems while they’re still small and simple to treat.
What to expect
First visit
Mostly introduction — meeting the team, sitting in the chair, a gentle look at teeth and gums. The goal is comfort, not a full procedure.
Checkups and cleanings
Regular visits track how teeth are coming in and catch early decay before it needs anything more than a small filling.
Preventive care
Sealants and fluoride treatments protect back teeth, which are the hardest for kids to brush well and the most cavity-prone.
Frequently asked
Around their first birthday, or within six months of the first tooth coming in — earlier than most parents expect, and it makes later visits much easier.
We go at their pace. That can mean a shorter first visit that’s just a look and a chat, building up to full cleanings over a few appointments rather than forcing everything at once.
Our digital x-rays use roughly 80% less radiation than older film x-rays, and we only take them when needed to see something a visual exam can’t.
Baby teeth still matter — they hold space for adult teeth and help with speech and chewing. Cavities in baby teeth are treated much like adult ones, usually with a simple filling.
